Beem Credit Union, a new credit union launching on 1 January in Canada following the merger of two existing credit unions – Gulf & Fraser and Interior Savings – has appointed Sue Britton as its chief innovation officer (CIO), effective 2 January. With more than 30 years of financial services experience, Britton is currently the CEO and founder of Firefly Growth, a fintech consultancy service. She has previously worked for Finastra as vice president, head of innovation and commercialisation, and for Broadridge as SVP and general manager. She will now look to drive product innovation as CIO of Beem, with the new credit union viewing her appointment as a “catalyst” to take its vision forward.
Through the merger of Gulf & Fraser and Interior Savings, Beem Credit Union will become the second largest provincially regulated credit union in British Columbia. It claims it will have approximately $10 billion in assets under management and will employ 1,000 people to serve more than 160,000 members. Beem will offer personal and commercial banking, as well as insurance and wealth management services across its 53 branches.
Brian Harris, soon to be CEO of Beem and current CEO at Interior Savings, says: “Sue lives and breathes innovation, bringing a wealth of knowledge in the open banking, payments modernisation, and banking products space. Having her expertise and experience as part of the executive team at Beem is a win for the entire organisation.”
