HSBC has announced that it will be launching a new international payments app, Zing, in the UK on January 3, 2024. Zing is a free app that allows UK residents to make payments in multiple currencies across more than 200 countries and territories. The app is targeted at expats, business and leisure travelers, and international investors. Users will be able to spend money offline and online worldwide, convert and send money in multiple currencies, and access 24/7 customer support. Some of the features of Zing include the ability to hold money in wallets with locked-in rates for up to 10 currencies and a multi-currency debit card with FX sweeping, which automatically converts currencies in other wallets to complete transactions at the point of sale. Users can also send money across borders in over 30 currencies using local payment methods and Swift.

The app aims to provide users with a convenient and secure way to send money overseas and spend money confidently wherever they are in the world. James Allan, the founder and CEO of Zing, states that the app enables users to “get on with the things that matter to them,” and emphasizes the importance of quick, easy, and secure international money transfers.

Zing has been authorized as an e-money institution by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), indicating that it meets the necessary regulatory standards to operate as a trusted payment service provider. This authorization ensures that users can have confidence in the security and reliability of the app.

The launch of Zing is part of HSBC’s broader strategy to enhance its digital offerings and provide customers with innovative solutions for managing their finances. The international payments app is expected to appeal to a wide range of customers, including those who frequently travel or have international financial commitments. With its user-friendly interface, competitive exchange rates, and comprehensive customer support, Zing has the potential to become a popular choice for individuals and businesses looking for a simple and efficient way to make international payments.
