Ant International’s cross-border mobile payment digital platform Alipay+ is launching a campaign to promote sustainable cross-border travel. The initiative seeks to encourage environmentally-friendly travel habits while also supporting local economies and cultures. The main points include:
- The campaign includes partnerships with five prominent e-wallets across Asia, including Alipay (Chinese mainland), AlipayHK (Hong Kong SAR, China), Touch ‘n Go eWallet by TNG Digital (Malaysia), GCash (the Philippines), and TrueMoney (Thailand).
- Travelers are offered incentives such as special offers from global industry participants, free overseas mobile data packages, in-app discounts within Alipay+’s merchant network, and opportunities for full rebates at partner stores.
- The campaign also aims to boost support for local small and micro-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as sustainable practices such as opting for digital payments over cash and exploring local destinations to support local communities and preservation of cultures.
- Alipay+ will collaborate with academic institutions including the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, Hong Kong University, University of Geneva University and Northwestern University to monitor and measure the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impact of the campaign.
- In 2023, Alipay expanded its cooperation with international card organisations to ease access for foreign cardholders visiting China and has achieved significant growth in cross-border payment volumes and daily transaction numbers.
Alipay+, launched in 2020, is a cross-border payment and marketing solution that connects over 88 million merchants in 57 markets to 1.5 billion payment accounts of over 25 digital wallets, banking apps and buy now, pay later (BNPL) applications. The platform aims to support responsible travel and aligns closely with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
